Michigan FCA is excited to announce the
“Harvey Gainey Memorial Camp Scholarship Fund”
Michigan FCA’s mission is “to lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church.” Camps are an incredible time of inspiration and perspiration, where sports and faith collide in a powerful way! Every year, FCA reaches thousands of athletes through camp ministry, and more than 50% of these campers in Michigan rely on some kind of financial assistance in order for them to experience this life-changing opportunity. These are high level camps where athletes are trained by some of the most qualified high school, collegiate, and professional coaches in the state! For some families, this is something that their child would not be able to experience without some assistance. The spiritual development and clear Gospel-centered approach to camps is also something that parents genuinely want their children to experience, and we are blessed to be able to provide assistance as needed to alleviate some of the burden that camps can have on families.
Funds are distributed based on scholarship applications that are reviewed by FCA staff, or stewarded directly through coaches who know the specific needs of athletes and families in their sports communities. Through the generosity of so many people, Michigan FCA is excited to continue to meet the need and help campers experience life change that only comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ!
Honoring Harvey Gainey's Legacy of Excellence
“We stand on the shoulders of many heroes of the faith in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Harvey Gainey was one of those. Harvey served on the National Board of Trustees starting in 1997 and involved with FCA locally in Michigan. He had a tremendous passion for the youth of our nation especially through FCA camps. Harvey also put the FCA “One Way to Play” logo on all the Gainey transportation trucks in an effort to spread the FCA message nationwide. We are forever grateful for Harvey and the Gainey family and blessed to know that through this fund many lives will be transformed by providing camp scholarships”
-Shane Williamson, FCA President & CEO
About Harvey:
Harvey Gainey passed away in November 2021 at the age of 79. In addition to being a husband of 59 years to Annie Gainey and a father to 2 children (Angela & Buddy), he was a very successful businessman, philanthropist and entrepreneur with a passion for children and helping them know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. He owned and operated Gainey Corporation and was also an owner with the West Michigan Whitecaps and Northpointe Bank. Harvey founded Two Moose Camp at Gainey Ranch in Glen, Montana which is a Christian camp dedicated for leadership training. Harvey was a longtime Board of Trustees member with Liberty University and Spring Arbor University. He also served as a board chairman with the Broadway Theater Guild and was a lifelong Christian and member of Calvary Church.
Gainey founded the Christian camp Two Moose Camp in Glen, Montana, a non-profit dedicated to leadership training. Two Moose Camp has generously hosted students from schools all over the country for the past 15 years, including students in the honors program and student leaders. Since 2009, athletic teams have sent players over the summer to receive leadership training. One of the schools heavily involved in this leadership development is Spring Arbor University. This is the current site of the Michigan FCA Sports Camp, a multi-sport camp for middle and high school students featuring more than 14 different sport options and with close to 500 annual participants. Gainey’s presence is felt at the camp not only because of his passion for both FCA and Spring Arbor University, but also through Gainey Hall, one of the dormitories where campers stay in this overnight camp and where students at SAU live throughout the school year.
Specific to FCA, Harvey has had an incredible impact on ministry growth over the years, in Michigan and throughout the world! When FCA established a program called “One Way 2 Play – Drug Free!” in 1991, Harvey’s trucking business was at the forefront of generating awareness, placing logos and information on his fleet of trucks that drove all over the United States, openly supporting this opportunity for kids to grow in their faith and learn about how to live a drug-free life. Harvey served on the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Board of Trustees for two terms ( ), providing financial assistance that allowed FCA to support schools and give scholarship opportunities, while also lending his expertise in business and marketing at a time where FCA saw incredible growth in impact and influence. In 2016, Harvey played a pivotal role in re-launching a State Leadership Board in Michigan, where once again his support and influence allowed FCA to provide scholarships and resources to thousands of coaches and athletes.
FCA is honored to name this scholarship fund in memory of Harvey Gainey, someone who spent his life making a profound impact on the lives of so many young people, all to the glory of God. We look forward to the continued relationship with his family, who share in Harvey’s love of Christ-centered sports activities for kids. Harvey’s legacy is one of integrity, serving, teamwork, and excellence – the core values of FCA ministry!
From Angela Jordan, Harvey’s Daughter:
“My dad had a deep love for Jesus and also a passion for sports. Football and college basketball were sounds I grew up hearing and watching. He was a huge Pittsburgh Steeler fan that my own son as well as my brother and his sons continue to carry on that love as well. FCA could not have been a better fit for him to commit to an organization that combined two things he loved.
He was always the most generous person, and had a heart for helping others and a desire to share the gospel of Jesus. He was generous not only with his finances, but with his time and his prayer for anyone. Along with his presence on the board at FCA he also served on the board at Liberty University, Cornerstone University and Spring Arbor University. He funded an all sports field for a local Grand Rapids Christian school. He contributed to Northpointe Christian School in various campaigns. Salvation Army was another organization that he was involved in annually with the Christmas red kettles. He had the dream to start a camp in Montana that would be a place for kids to deepen their relationship with Jesus. He and my mom were able to make that a reality in 2003 with college kids filling the first summer camps. He loved being there, not only interacting with the kids but he also would play the organ and piano for worship in the chapel that truly is a holy place. My parents cherished the letters from kids who left forever changed.
My family is so honored to have my dad connected with the scholarship fund for FCA camp. We hope the fund is able to allow many athletes to attend summer camp. My son, Spencer attended FCA golf camp so we have first-hand experience on what the camps do in the lives of athletes. My husband, Brent is an avid hunter and fisher and has been involved with FCA at the national level. We love sports and how that can be a way to reach kids with the love of Jesus. He and I are excited to be a part of FCA and look forward to watching God do miraculous things. We hope we can carry on my dad’s legacy and I honor him as well as the Lord.”
